EU Funding Goals
The aim of applying for EU Funding for this project is to continue expanding the reach and impact of Dublin Maker Festival.
Dublin Maker is currently attended by over 10,000 individuals, and its free-to-attend nature ensures that it is accessibility to everyone, irrespective of their background or socioeconomic status. However, to further enhance the impact of Dublin Maker, we wish to reach out and connect with communities who are often underrepresented at these events, both as exhibitors and as attendees, including but not limited to people from migrant backgrounds, Irish Travellers and Roma, people with disabilities and people experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage. To do this, we require additional funding to ensure the accessibility of the event and to provide support for both exhibitors and attendees coming from these backgrounds.
Strengths
The Dublin Maker Festival:
The Dublin Maker Festival stands out as a dynamic and inclusive event with several key strengths that make it a cornerstone of the maker community.
One of its greatest assets is its ability to create an engaging and interactive environment that sparks curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM among people of all ages, particularly families and young learners. The festival’s commitment to diversity ensures that it attracts a wide range of participants, from makers to attendees, fostering an inclusive atmosphere that celebrates varied perspectives and experiences. By showcasing a diverse array of projects - from traditional crafts to advanced technology - it highlights the creativity and innovation at the heart of the maker movement, encouraging exploration and experimentation. Hands-on learning experiences, through workshops and interactive exhibits, make STEM concepts tangible and accessible, promoting practical skills and critical thinking.
The festival also serves as a platform to inspire future generations by connecting attendees with professionals in STEM fields, offering insights into education and career opportunities. Furthermore, it strengthens the maker community by facilitating networking, collaboration, and knowledge sharing, creating a vibrant ecosystem of creativity and innovation.
Lastly, its emphasis on sustainability reflects a forward-thinking approach, aligning with global efforts to promote environmentally responsible practices. Together, these strengths make the Dublin Maker Festival a powerful and enduring celebration of creativity, learning, and community.
Dublin Maker Festival Coordinators:
The coordinators of the Dublin Maker Festival bring a wealth of strengths to the table, making them exceptional partners for collaboration.
With 12 years of experience in organising Dublin Maker (and 20+ years in STEM education and outreach) and a proven track record of growing the event to attract over 10,000 attendees annually, they have demonstrated exceptional organisational skills, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of community engagement. One of their standout strengths is their expertise in fostering collaboration and building partnerships.
They have a strong network within the STEM and maker communities both in Ireland and across Europe, including educators, professionals, and local organisations, which they leverage to create a diverse and dynamic program. Their collaborative approach ensures that all stakeholders feel valued and included, making them ideal partners for joint initiatives. Additionally, their commitment to inclusivity and diversity ensures that any collaboration would reflect a wide range of perspectives and experiences, enriching the outcomes for all involved.
The coordinators have a lot of experience in event management and logistics, ensuring that every aspect of the festival runs smoothly, from workshops and exhibits to sustainability initiatives. Their hands-on, detail-oriented approach guarantees that projects are executed to the highest standard. Furthermore, their passion for promoting STEM education, creativity, and sustainability makes them forward-thinking partners who are attuned to global trends and societal needs.
