FoodCloud

FoodCloud is a non-profit social enterprise working to tackle the twin issues of food waste and food security. We do this by redistributing surplus food from the food industry to a network of charity and community partners. In Ireland, FoodCloud offers two services to redistribute surplus food to a network of over 750 community groups across Ireland: Through our technology platform that connects over 500 supermarkets with surplus or excess food directly to local community groups.

Some experience

FoodCloud delivers the ESF+ program in Ireland on behalf of the EU.

EU Funding Goals

In the first two years, FoodCloud aims to expand upon its network by connecting with other NGOs, government agencies, and private sector partners across Europe and participating in joint projects and clusters with other European organisations. We are particularly interested in developing our knowledge of  food redistribution techniques and best practices utilised by other organisations, as well as on strategies for engaging and educating communities on food waste and food poverty. Additionally, we aim to enhance our team's skills through targeted training and collaborative learning opportunities. Our focus will be on understanding EU project management and reporting, improving our fundraising and grant writing capabilities, and leveraging technology for more efficient food redistribution.

Moving into the next five years, FoodCloud aspires to take on a more prominent role by leading and coordinating larger EU-funded projects. Our objective is to manage projects that deliver specific, measurable outputs in terms of redistributing as much surplus food as possible. We will focus on comprehensive food waste audits and impact assessments, developing scalable food redistribution models, and initiating cross-border food recovery efforts.

Looking further ahead, in ten years, FoodCloud envisions coordinating multiple large-scale projects with high-level outputs and results. We aim to become a central hub for food waste reduction and food poverty alleviation efforts across Europe. Our long-term objectives include influencing policy at both national and EU levels, developing and disseminating best practices and innovative solutions widely, and establishing sustainable and self-sufficient food redistribution systems that can be adopted globally.
