Heritage Society

The purpose of the organisation is to preserve and promote the natural, built and social heritage of Clara, and to support the engagement of the community at large in activities and events that support this purpose. The Society's summer programme of cultural events and festivals reaches over 2,000 people. The society instigated through its online historical video a TCF Team to support the regeneration of the small Industrial Heritage Town.

EU Funding Goals

We would like to collaborate with other Industrial Heritage Towns, to enable us to comlete an Industrial Heritage Route for Offaly as an addition to the current EU Industrial Heritage Route, and to explore funding options for the development of projects in the town in line with this goal.

Furthermore, we would like to promote the history of Irelands Industrial age within rural towns.

Strengths

The Society has a particularly active group with access to older members of the community to still remember the town in its industrial hayday.

The society has some expertise in people who are particularly knowledgable in the area of Ireland & Europe's ancient monastic sites, and the natural heritage such as Clara Bog.

The society is excellent at networking and open to ideas.

The society also works well with government bodies and with NGO's.
