EU Funding Goals

The Irish Global Health Network (IGHN), through its various programmes such as the IGHNx events, Summer Schools in Global Health, Global Health eModules, workshops, report launches, webinars, podcasts, and other initiatives, aims to further enhance collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in global health across Europe.

To achieve this, we are seeking EU funding to support and expand our impact in the following key areas.

Funding Goal: €1.5 million over 3 years

This funding will be used to scale up and sustain the following activities:

1. Expansion of IGHN's Educational Programmes

  • Global Health eModules: Expand the range of self-paced online courses, covering critical global health topics such as health systems strengthening, climate-health interlinkages, health equity across the EU, and more. The funding will allow for the development of additional modules, enhanced digital infrastructure, and increased accessibility across Europe.
  • Summer School in Global Health: Support scholarships, facilitate the participation of more health workers and students from underrepresented regions, and enhance the overall learning experience.
  • Estimated cost: €100,000

2. Growth of IGHNx Event Series

  • Global Health Reimagined Event: Fund the organisation of future IGHNx events, with a focus on expanding audience reach, inviting more diverse speakers, and incorporating interactive and immersive experiences that blend science with the arts. The funding will also support the launch of new, high-impact reports on global health challenges.
  • Estimated cost: €120,000

3. Support for Research and Advocacy

  • Report Launches and Dissemination: Fund the creation and launch of impactful global health research reports, ensuring findings are disseminated across Europe to inform policy, advocacy, and practice. This includes creating accessible, multilingual versions of reports and supporting events to engage a broader audience, including policymakers, public health professionals, and the general public.
  • Estimated cost: €100,000

4. Networking and Collaboration Initiatives

  • Workshops and Collaborative Events: Organise a series of thematic workshops and networking events to foster partnerships and knowledge-sharing between global health experts, activists, and organisations across the EU. These events will focus on high-priority topics like climate change, health equity, and health systems strengthening.
  • Estimated cost: €120,000

5. Capacity Building and Outreach

  • Outreach and Partnerships: Fund outreach activities to engage new stakeholders across the EU, particularly in underrepresented regions. This includes outreach to universities, NGOs, and public health organisations to broaden participation in IGHN initiatives, and build capacity for global health advocacy.
  • Estimated cost: €120,000

Total Funding Requested: €1 million over 3 years

This EU funding will enable IGHN to continue building a robust, collaborative, and creative global health community, strengthening Europe's role in advancing health equity, innovation, and education in global health. It will also help ensure that the voices of the most marginalised communities are consistently brought to the forefront of global health discussions, driving lasting change across the continent and beyond.

Strengths

The Irish Global Health Network (IGHN) is recognised for its extensive portfolio of programmes that foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and innovation in global health across Europe.

These include IGHNx, the Summer School in Global Health, Global Health eModules, workshops, report launches, and other initiatives, all designed to strengthen Europe’s leadership in addressing global health challenges.

The network’s key strengths are highlighted below:

1. Comprehensive Educational Programmes

  • Global Health eModules: IGHN offers a suite of self-paced online courses that cover vital global health topics, including health systems strengthening, climate-health interlinkages, and pandemics. These eModules are designed to be flexible, enabling professionals and students across Europe to engage with the material at their own pace while enhancing accessibility to critical global health knowledge.
  • Summer School in Global Health: The Summer School is a unique, immersive learning experience that brings together health professionals and students to explore global health challenges. Targeted scholarships and outreach efforts ensure that individuals from underrepresented regions are included, enriching the educational experience for all participants and strengthening Europe’s capacity to address global health issues.

2. Innovation in Global Health Events

  • IGHNx Event Series: IGHN’s Global Health Reimagined event provides a TEDx-style platform that blends scientific discussions with artistic expression, fostering creativity, empathy, and new perspectives on global health issues. By incorporating music, poetry, and storytelling with expert talks, IGHNx generates dialogue on critical topics such as equity, access to healthcare, and the challenges faced by marginalised communities.

3. Impactful Research and Advocacy

  • Report Launches and Dissemination: IGHN has established a strong reputation for producing and launching research that addresses the most pressing global health challenges. By disseminating these reports across Europe and engaging stakeholders such as policymakers, public health professionals, and the wider public, IGHN ensures that its findings inform policy and advocacy, driving action on health equity and other critical issues.

4. Fostering Networking and Collaboration

  • Workshops and Collaborative Events: IGHN’s workshops and networking events are central to promoting collaboration across the EU. These events provide a platform for professionals and organisations to discuss high-priority global health issues, including climate change, health equity, and the strengthening of health systems, facilitating cross-sectoral partnerships and the sharing of best practices.

5. Strong Outreach and Capacity Building

  • Outreach and Partnerships: IGHN is dedicated to engaging a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including universities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and public health bodies across Europe. The network’s outreach efforts are designed to expand participation in global health initiatives and build the capacity of European organisations to advocate for and address global health challenges, particularly in regions that are most in need.
